A remake of ”The Mechanic” (1972). The movie is about Artur Bishop, a hired assassin who makes his victims look like they died of natural causes or anything else that prevents it from looking like a murder. The movie opens up with a man, who owns a mansion, swimming in his pool. You then see Arthur right below him and he begins to murder him. He makes it seem as he is still swimming by moving his body. After he escapes, it looks as if the man had just drowned and there is no trace of anyone that killed him. He meets up with his good friend , Harry Mckenna, who gave him the job as an assassin. The company then calls him to give him a job. To his surprise, the company has assigned Arthur to kill his good friend and mentor Harry. After he assassinates Harry, he goes to the funeral in which he meets Harry’s son. His son , Steve, wants revenge on the man that killed his father and asks Arthur to take him under his wing and teach him everything he knows. He quickly learns and he teams up with Arthur in most of his assassinations. Arthur discovers that the company had lied to him and that Harry never turned on the company. He seeks to kill the head of the company and he brings Steve along. Steve finds his fathers revolver in Arthur’s shed and he discovers that he was in fact the one who killed his father. Once they finish the job, Steve starts to fill their truck up with gas but leaves the pump so it overfills and leaks. He then fires at the truck causing the truck, with Arthur still in it, to explode. He then goes back to Arthur’s house and takes Arthur’s prized car for a spin. To his surprise their is a note from Arthur that reads “Steve, if your reading this then you’re dead” and the car explodes as he drives away. The cops are show investigating the film of the scene of the explosion and it reveals that Arthur had escaped at the last minute.
I have never seen the original but I have to say that this movie made me want to see it. The assassinations were pretty brutal and it was very action packed. Jason Statham never fails when he has to play a badass. He was such a BA in this movie and he was so slick in his assassinations. Ben Foster , as well, did an excellent job in his role. He is the classic comedic relief to the serious character in movies. The movie was not 100 percent true to the original because in the original Arthur is supposed to die. I believe this was because they have hopes in making a sequel.
