INHALE

This film got no press but it is well-written, has a great cast/performances, and an ending that's a knock-out. Dermout Mulroney gives a dynamic performance as a father who is pushed to the brink to help his dying child. Diane Kruger is equally as good as a mother squeezed to the breaking point. The film is intense and fast-paced. The direction is FANTASTIC. The Music is well-done and the art direction sets the tone. Rent it. You won't be sorry.

The story is about a young couple who's daughter need a lung transplant. Everything seems hopeless until their Doctor gives them a lead that takes the desperate father into Mexico, to buy his way onto their donor list. But what he finds both surprises and shocks him. And he is faced with an impossible choice. IT IS A GREAT MOVIE!

Straw Dogs - Everyone has a breaking point

Director: Rod Lurie
Writers: Rod Lurie (screenplay), David Zelag Goodman (earlier screenplay), and 2 more credits »
Stars: James Marsden, Kate Bosworth and Alexander SkarsgÄrd

L.A. screenwriter David Sumner relocates with his wife to her hometown in the deep South. There, while tensions build between them, a brewing conflict with locals becomes a threat to them both.

Review :
Sam Peckinpah's "Straw Dogs" remains a most disturbing, morally ambiguous confrontation between the brute code of uneducated farmboys with the complex attempts at rationalization by a sophisticated, neurotic, hyper-educated urban college professor attempting to escape the responsibilities of living in an increasingly complex world. It is also a magnificently constructed motion picture, elegantly photographed, brilliantly edited, hauntingly scored, with powerhouse performances from every actor.

This wholly unnecessary remake on the other hand is amateurish swill - banal photography, drama-class acting (and why not? all the characters have been reduced to caricature), and soap-opera rewriting. It's basically a television movie with some sex and violence thrown in for the fan-boy crowd. It's even got the requisite car-chases, and supposedly pointed dialog about adultery and motivations, blah blah blah.

Graceless, visually dull, with no sympathetic characters, but a lotta boom! crash! foe those who think loud noises and pyrotechnics make up for lack of intelligence and imagination.

Inception

When the director of some of the best movies of recent years (The Prestige, Memento, The Dark Knight), makes a movie about dreams (a field of study that the modern science has very little knowledge of) starring Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the best actors to have come up in the past decade, the expectations are incredibly high. Inception,  unsurprisingly surpasses all the expectations that hardcore Nolan fans may have had. It is grand, it is intelligent, and most importantly, it is awesome.
Sample the premise: it is a world where it is possible to invade dreams and steal ideas. The protagonist, Dom Cobb (played by DiCaprio), is the best thief in the business of dream invasion and deception. He has had a troubled past due to separation from his children. He is given a last impossible chance at redemption: inception, meaning he needs to plant an idea instead of stealing one.
With a premise that is as innovative as this, you already have the audience engrossed. All you need to do thereafter is to lead the movie to an impressive conclusion. Nolan does not only manage to do this but he also manages to make the journey to the climax unbelievably enthralling to say the least.
Inception has only one problem: it is very complex. It took Nolan ten years to outline all the nuances of subconscious invasion and inception. So, it is only understandable that it can be really difficult for the audience to catch all these nuances in a 148 minutes watch. His movie requires multiple watches, but since it is exceedingly engaging, you are unlikely to get bored. All the clues to understanding the movie are there in it; your job is to watch it alertly and solve the puzzle.

Piranha 3D [2010]

Piranha, a modern remake of the 1978 film, is one of the first post-production-conversion-to-3D to enjoy relatively positive feedback by critics. Based in Lake Victoria in the United States, an earthquake has opened up a rift to an ‘underwater ocean’ in which thousands of predatory prehistoric Piranhas have been breeding unseen for two million years. However implausible it may be, it sets the premise for without a doubt the most ridiculous film of the year. The film follows Jake (Steven McQueen) as he enjoys the entertainment by the lake – a film set for “Wild Wild Girls’ in which there are more shots of breasts than fish themselves.
Filled with an immeasurable amount of gore which will no doubt shock and humor viewers, this is definately not a film for a younger audience. If you understand the film does not take itself seriously, nor (hopefully) do the actors then you will have a great time ‘taking the plunge’ and viewing it. Approach the movie with the mindset that  you are about to watch an over-the-top Sci-Fi Porno Thriller, and you are sure to be thoroughly entertained.

The Other Guys

From the director of titles such as ‘Step Brothers’ and ‘Anchorman’ comes a new action comedy about two wannabe heroes – Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg) and Allen Gamble (Ferrell). After discovering evidence of a multi-billion dollar cash coverup, the two are dedicated to solving the case – leading to several laugh out loud moments. In combining this odd pair with several completely random moments which as a whole don’t contribute to the overall story line at all, the movie achieves a level of humor that has not been seen in the cinemas for months.
New to comedy, Wahlberg successfully acts opposite comedy aficionado Ferrell in what makes for a successful comedy duo. Filled with explosions, car chases and gun fire, the budget is utilized triumphantly to create an action packed atmosphere, with laughs-a-plenty.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

Balthazar (Cage) is a modern day sorcerer fighting against the forces of evil who are trying to destroy the world (original, I know). Both the evil and good sides are searching for the inheritor of Merlin’s powers, Jay Baruchel.
The simplicity of the story line radiates throughout the whole film. Apart from some pretty decent special effects the dialogue is about as dry as the acting and the amount of plot holes is phenomenal. It’s obvious that the director decided that instead of writing a whole and corresponding script he decided to utilise the old fashioned “I’ll make up a spell to counter that whole idea” so as to avoid explanations.
Perhaps this is a bit harsh for kids film (I hope it’s a kids film..) but I had higher expectations for this film, especially as the ‘Fantasia’ scene was talked up and ended up being sub-par, though it does have some entertainment value to it. I would recommend it as a rainy day holiday film for young teenagers.
